Privacy Policy

The short version: Kindred stores the information you give us to make the app work. We do not sell your personal data or your children's data to anyone. We share data only with the essential third-party services that power the app.

1. Who We Are

This Privacy Policy describes how SHOBEL LLC d/b/a Kindred Parenting ("Kindred," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Kindred mobile application and website at meetkindred.app (the "Service"). Questions? Reach us at hello@meetkindred.app.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information directly from you when you create an account, use the app, complete profiles, or communicate with the AI coach.

Information you provide directly:

  • Account information: name, email address, and password (or sign-in credentials via Apple or Google)
  • Child profiles: name, date of birth, and any characteristics or challenges you describe about your children
  • Growth areas and journal entries: notes, observations, and reflections you write in the app
  • Chat messages: messages you send to the Kindred AI coach
  • Co-parenting connections: the email address of a partner you invite to share access
  • Feedback: any messages you send us through the app or by email

Information collected automatically:

  • Device type, operating system, and app version
  • Usage data such as features accessed and session duration
  • Crash reports and error logs
  • Push notification delivery status

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and personalize the Service, including generating AI coaching responses tailored to your child's profile
  • Maintain and improve the app's performance and features
  • Send you notifications you have opted into (daily reminders, weekly check-ins)
  • Respond to your support requests and feedback
  • Process subscription payments (handled by Apple; we do not store payment details)
  • Comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use
  • Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents

We do not use your data or your children's data for advertising purposes, and we do not sell your information to any third party.

4. Information About Children

Kindred is used by parents and caregivers (adults 18+) to support their children's development. You may enter names, ages, and behavioral or developmental information about your children. This information is stored securely and used solely to personalize the coaching experience for you.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information directly without parental consent, contact us at hello@meetkindred.app and we will delete it promptly.

5. How We Share Your Information

We share your information only in the following limited circumstances. We share personal information only with service providers that are contractually obligated to protect the information, use it solely for the purposes we specify, and provide a level of privacy protection consistent with this Privacy Policy.

  • Supabase: Our database and authentication provider. Your account data, child profiles, journal entries, and chat history are stored on Supabase's infrastructure.
  • Anthropic: The AI provider that powers Kindred's coaching responses. Chat messages and child profile context are sent to Anthropic to generate responses. Anthropic processes data solely to provide AI responses and not to build advertising profiles. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to how they handle this data.
  • Apple: Manages subscription billing and, if you use Sign in with Apple, authentication.
  • RevenueCat: Manages subscription status and entitlements. RevenueCat may receive your Apple purchase receipt data.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose your information when required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority.
  • Business transfers: If Kindred is acquired, merged, or sold, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.

We do not permit third parties to use your data for their own advertising or marketing purposes.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account (via Settings in the app), we permanently delete your account, all child profiles, growth areas, journal entries, and chat history. Deletion is processed immediately and cannot be undone.

We may retain anonymized, non-identifiable usage data after account deletion to improve the Service.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security practices to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to contact us immediately if you suspect any unauthorized access to your account.

8. Push Notifications

If you enable notifications, we may send you push notifications such as daily reminders and weekly check-in prompts. You can manage or disable notifications at any time in your device's Settings or within the Kindred app under Settings.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Object to or restrict certain processing of your information
  • Receive a copy of your information in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@meetkindred.app. We will respond within 30 days. You can also delete your account directly from the app under Settings → Delete Account.

10. California Residents

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and share, the right to delete your personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your CCPA rights, contact us at hello@meetkindred.app.

11. International Users

Kindred is based in the United States. If you are accessing the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, by in-app notification. Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
